The law of attraction how does it work and why should you apply it

The thing that holds us back the most is our thoughts and it’s not our conscious thoughts it’s our subconscious thoughts, our lizard brain. We set our self up for failure without even realizing it. So what is the law of attraction and how does it help us not to fall into the trap of setting yourself up for failure?

Setting your self up for failure

Let’s say you have the ambition to make a career switch or to start your own business. It will give you a lot of energy, but it also comes with fear and you start having thoughts like this:

“Am I good enough ?”

“Am I able to still pay my bills ?”

These are realistic fears to have. So what happens now? You set up your new business or switch careers, you go in with all your energy and passion, but in the back of your mind the seeds of those fears are planted.

Subconsciously you start taking actions to fight those fears. So instead of being the best version of yourself you can be, you are consumed by self-doubt.

Because you are afraid you will not be able to pay your bills, you are desperate for clients and/or money, not appreciating the process and rush things, with long term consequences and guaranteed failure in the end.

A simple example is when you bake something in the oven, just putting the oven on max heat will result in burning the food, not in faster preparation of the food.

Switching carreers and/or starting a new business is a really specific example, but this concept applies to everything in life. When you focus on something bad, you will plant a seed for that thought. Whether that’s with regards to work or your relationship. All of your future actions consciously and subconsciously will be based on those seeds.

So how does this work?

What is The law of attraction

When we are thinking about something our brain focuses on that and uses our senses to pick those things up.

Let me give a few examples:

  • You are buying a new car and while you are waiting for that car you now notice a lot of them on the road. Of course, there a not all of a sudden driving more of those types of cars. You just notice them now.
  • Let’s say you walk into a shopping mall, hundreds of conversations are being held around you. However, you won’t notice any of them until the moment you hear your name.

Apply The law of attraction

The key to this concept is, that it does not only work on fears and negative thoughts, but also on positive ones. So if we go back to the career switch/starting your own business examples. Think positive thoughts about them. Worry about them in a positive way.

“I now have all the room to develop myself and I will become great at the things I do. What comes after that?”

“Starting up a business is like an investment and may cost me some money when I start. But I won’t have to worry about money anymore when my business is completely operational. How do I invest that money?”

This will impact your action, just as with the negative thoughts. So instead of focussing on the things, you think you CAN’T have, focus on the things you WANT to have.

Not only will it influence your actions, but it will also give you a sense of control. Fear is not holding you back anymore, you are taking actions based on the things you want, also subconsciously.

Conclusion

People that don’t believe in this concept, mostly miss the part of the actions. Things don’t come magically towards you. You think about them and take proper action.

The action part is the connection between the thoughts and the things you want. This paradigm shift of the mind is hard to master, it requires time and practice.
